Our Practice

Affirmative Psychotherapy Group was founded at the height of the AIDS epidemic in Washington DC, filling a gap in the urgent need for confidential, high quality mental health services for gay men.  AIDS brought brutal losses, but also hard won visibility into gay lives, relationships and community.

We found our roots in DC’s expanding and diverse gay community and continue to provide provide psychotherapy to a widening range of adults from the DC area and in other regions of the country by teletherapy.

Opportunities have expanded for gay people to come out and live fuller personal and professional lives.  Along with the opportunities come a growing set of choices, risks, responsibilities–and the stresses associated with all of those. Some stresses and strains lead to paralysis and confusion.  Some have impacts on mental or physical health, such as frequent illnessesanxietydepressionmood changesintimacy problems, or increased substance use.

We can help with those.
